The Universal Accreditation Board and the Public Relations Society of America
have collaborated with Point-Productions to produce a multimedia online study
course for professionals in Public Relations. The Accreditation in Public
Relations (APR) study course was produced economically, to ensure accessibility
for candidates in the program. The course is narrated by APR professionals,
with fully interactive multimedia modules.

WHO:
The course is offered to potential candidates for the APR throughout the year.
Participants may enter the course at any time; however they must complete the
course of study by the end of one year. Each participant will be invited to
attend an online WebConference, to review the topics of one module and to have
questions answered.

SCOPE:
This is a ten-module online course, designed to help Public Relations
professionals study for the Examination for Accreditation in Public Relations
(APR). APR is a mark of distinction for public relations professionals who
demonstrate their commitment to the profession and to its ethical practice and
who are selected based on broad knowledge, strategic perspective and sound
professional judgment. This examination has been designed for candidates who
have at least five years of experience in the full-time practice or teaching of
public relations and who have either earned a bachelor's degree in a
communication-specific field or have equivalent work experience. The study
course also may be taken to enhance knowledge, expertise and professional
standing in Public Relations.

HOW:
Each module will include a multimedia introduction. The multimedia introductions
will require the Macromedia Flash Player. Please do a system check to determine
if your system is set up properly. The multimedia Introduction will introduce
the topic, readings and activities for the current module. Participants will
share responses with all participants and online course facilitators will
provide feedback to activities.
The study course will cover topics related to the successful completion of the
Readiness Review and the written Examination. The course will follow ten modules
and related topics, based on competencies for the exam. Participants may work on
the modules at their own pace, however it is suggested that each module be
completed in no more than one month and no less than one week.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION:
This ten-module online course will provide active learning experiences, through
online activities. Successful completion of the course will require team and
individual projects. Collaboration and teamwork will be stressed in each module
to simulate current business practices for the creation of Public Relations
documents and projects typically created by a Public Relations professional.
The technologies employed in this online course include multimedia module
introductions, asynchronous activities, case study analysis, projects, directed
discussions, self-correcting quizzes and simulations. The course will begin with
an online multimedia orientation, to ensure participation and understanding of
