CCNP certification is often a logical next step after the CCNA certification for most professionals. For those professionals who intend to undertake the CCIE certification, while certification is not necessary, the training that leads to it is usually needed for most professionals.

The CCNP certification indicates advanced knowledge of networks.
A network professional is expected to be able to install, configure and troubleshoot local and wide area networks for enterprise organizations with networks from 100 to more than 500 nodes. The certification emphasizes topics such as security, converged networks, quality of service (QoS), virtual private networks (VPN) and broadband technologies.
