This five day course explores the guidance in ITIL Release Management to understand the processes involved in Release and Control/Change/Configuration Management. This course is for IT professionals who will participate in managing, organising and optimising the operations of Release and Control processes. This course is used in preparation to undertake EXIN Practitioner Certificate exam in Release and Control in the afternoon of day five of the course.

Implement the Configuration Management process based upon the Configuration Management plan. Describe the different between asset management and Configuration Management.
The Configuration Management Database - Planning and Implementation
Goals, scope, defining the role, the organisation structure, support interfaces, dependencies and benefits. Plan and implement the initial capture of CI data, populate the CMDB, implement procedures and how to keep the CMDB up-to-date.
Coding Systems, Attributes and Naming Conventions
Design and implement impact codes, priority codes, naming conventions for Release and Control process and identify attributes of CIs and all required relationships.
Procedures and Working Instructions
Plan, elaborate, optimise and carry out procedures for Release and Control process with Configuration Management, implementation of procedures and working instructions from planning through to verification and audit of Configuration Items.

Defining the role of the Release and Control Manager

Being aware of the support tools and techniques available for the implementation of Release and Control process and be able to indicate where and how improvements can be made. Also preparing Release and Control Management reports for distribution throughout the organisation, monitoring and reporting upon the Release and Control process.
Day 5 - Release and Control Auditing and Service Improvement
What, how and when to audit the process of Release and Control.
Course Review, Exam Preparation and Examination
The five day course consists of exercises, syndicate work and assignments that will assist in developing an action plan for the future.
Course structure
The course is practically based, combining short lectures with individual and group exercises and assignments. The course provides a very good introduction to IT Service Management and many organisations have chosen to send some or all of their IT staff on these courses in preparation for an implementation programme.
In Course Assessments/Assignments
Part of the examination is made up of an assessment whereby the course provider tests three assignments during the course. In order to obtain the Practitioner Certificate in IT Service Management the result of this assessment must be satisfactory.

Delegates will receive a bound copy of the PowerPoint slides used during the course, a copy of the itSMF IT Service Management pocket-guide and access during the course to the OGC publications. Delegates will also receive assignments, mock exams, exercises and case studies.
