Program Outline

Module 1: Plan a MOM Infrastructure

This module explains how to plan for business requirements determine the appropriate number of MOM servers and determine the server locations.

Lessons

  • Determine the business requirements for a MOM deployment

  • Collect information about the current infrastructure

  • Determine what services need to be monitored

  • Determine the number of managed servers

  • Determine the number of agent-less managed servers

  • Determine the number of required management servers

  • Determine the number of management groups.

  • Determine the location of management servers

  • Determine the location for the SQL database

  • Determine which management server will be the reporting server.

    After completing this module students will be able to:

  • Identify what needs to be monitored

  • Determine how collected information will be used

  • Determine server location

  • Plan for server availability

    Module 2: Install MOM

    This module explains how to create the needed accounts and run the MOM installation wizard.

    Lessons

  • Create necessary user accounts

  • Run the MOM 2005 Setup Wizard to install MOM

  • Verify MOM Installation

    After completing this module students will be able to:

  • Create the MOM Action account

  • Create the DAS account

  • Assign necessary user rights

  • Select the MOM options to be installed

  • Specify the MOM database location

  • Specify the management group name

  • Specify the user accounts

  • Verify Active Directory environment (Active Directory domains that trust each other)

  • Confirm participation in Microsoft s MOM error reporting program

  • Verify installed and running services

  • Verify connectivity to the MOM database (by opening the Administrator Console)

    Module 5: Manage MOM Managed Servers

    This module explains how to manage rules alerts and resolve configuration issues.

  • Determine which management server will be the reporting server.

  • Use the Web console

    Module 6: Managing Collected Data

    This module explains how to manage collected data by using the reporting console predefined reports and the web console.

  • Install the Reporting console

  • Generate predefined reports

  • Use the Reporting console to view reports

  • Use the Web console to view reports

  • Analyze reports to identify specific problems.

    After completing this module students will be able to:

  • Identify necessary hardware requirements

  • Identify necessary software requirements

  • Identify the available predefined reports

  • View reports

  • Provide access to reports through a Web interface.

    Module 7: Configure Multiple Management Servers

    This module explains how to configure multiple management servers to scale your management solution across the organization.

    Lessons

  • Install additional MOM management servers

  • Configure MOM for a multiple domain environment

  • Maintain a MOM database

  • Back up and restore a database

  • After completing this module students will be able to:

  • Install multi-homed agents

  • Configure alert forwarding

  • Implement load balancing and redundancy

  • Groom a database
