Introduction to Access familiarizes participants with the fundamental tools and concepts of Microsoft Access. At the end of class, students will be able to use Access tables, queries, form and reports to organize and extract information in a database. The class is taught as a hands-on "laboratory" lead by an experienced instructor. During class, students use a workstation to work with actual files and real-world examples. In addition to the classroom instruction and hands-on exercises, each participant recieves a booklet and class CD, detailing the topics and methods presented during the class, for their review after class.

Introduction to Microsoft Access
In this class, participants learn to create an Access database, populate it with tables to store data, build queries to find information, create forms to display data and reports to print the data. The primary focus is on table and query design, including the construction of simple calculations in queries. The section on table design includes information about controlling user entry with field properties that check for invalid information, as well as tips on how to make a database more user-friendly. The class objectives include:
- Understand fundamental Access concepts: tables, records, fields, queries, forms and reports.
- Learn basic table use: build tables with the table wizard, add, edit and delete records, freezing and moving columns.
- Design tables: understand field definitions and properties.
- Use more advanced table features: sorting data, finding records, applying filters.
- Explore queries: learn how queries can retrieve and create data.
- Build forms: create a pleasant data entry environment.
- Work with reports: arrange data for printing.
