The class is taught as a hands-on "laboratory" lead by an experienced instructor. During class, students use a workstation to work with actual files and real-world examples. In addition to the classroom instruction and hands-on exercises, each participant recieves a booklet and class CD, detailing the topics and methods presented during the class, for their review after class.

Intermediate Microsoft Access

Students learn additional design techniques in this workshop-style class. Participants are encouraged to ask questions based on their own needs and experience, with answers provided by the instructor. Common questions address the creation of drop-down lists in tables, in-depth coverage of formulas to find (or create) useful data and development of more robust forms and reports. The expansive possibilities offered by queries are usually highlighted through various demonstrations. Other common topics include retrieving data from a non-Access source and controlling the user interface. The course objectives include:

  • Learn to use data the comes from sources outside Access.
  • Use equations in queries.
  • Learn how and why to set relationships between database tables.
  • Quickly create user forms with sub-forms.
  • Create lookup fields in tables to allow users to pick an entry from a list of possible entries.
  • Place combo boxes on user forms that allow a user to quickly find a particular record in the database.
  • Learn about Access' eight advanced query types, including action queries and queries with totals and groups.
  • Set up and control a database using a main menu and Access' startup options.
