While it is a reasonably simple program, PowerPoint offers an array of intermediate and advanced tools that can streamline your design work and add impact to a presentation. As a result, Intermediate PowerPoint is offered as a "workshop" style class, allowing students to cover those topics that will benefit them most.
The largest, and most popular, section details PowerPoint's animation features. In addition to the basic techniques, students learn to create three types of advanced effects using the basic animation options available to them. Techniques to speed up the creation of presentations are often covered in detail, and these include creating custom templates for recurrent use. Additional topics, presented at the discretion of the students or instructor, include the application of hyperlinks within a presentation, creating "unstaffed" kiosk presentations that are self-running and the creation of organizational charts, among others. The class objectives include:
- Review tips and techniques: change text case, create lists, add a summary slide, duplicate slides, change a slide's background, work in black and white view and insert comments.
- Discuss how to streamline your work: custom shows, the master objects, templates and using slides from other files.
- Cover advanced presentation features: hyperlinks, animation, sound effects, organization charts and graphs.
- Learn to use additional speaker's tools: rehearse timings, create kiosk presentations, including those with soundtracks, set up slide shows and use the meeting minder.
- The PowerPoint Viewer and the Pack and Go Wizard.
