LAN Fundamentals is the second course of the LAN/WAN Basics curriculum that comprises three courses. The course provides an overview to the concepts, components, and various architectures of LAN technologies. It also describes the fundamentals of network management and LAN security. After completing this course, the student will be able to:

List various access techniques used in LANs
Describe the process of PDU, packet, and frame exchange between the OSI layers
List the primary error detection techniques
Describe the functions of a hub, repeater, and bridge
List the features and components of Ethernet
List the features of different Ethernet standards
List the features of the IEEE 802.5 and FDDI token ring networks
List the components and advantages of a Virtual Local Area
Describe different network management areas
List the components of SNMP
Differentiate between active and passive attacks
List various encryption techniques

Pre-requisites
