Course Overview

This course is the third in a five-part series on Novell NetWare Service and Support. This series focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and resolution of hardware-related problems that network professionals encounter while working with a network. This course covers NetWare installation and troubleshooting a Novell Client.

Learn To:

  • Identify the six levels of the Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID).
  • Mirror disk partitions for maintaining NetWare security.
  • Install a NetWare 5 server.
  • Identify the architecture of Novell Client for two Windows platforms, Windows 95 and Windows NT Workstation.
  • Use some troubleshooting tools to find the causes of the problems on the Novell Client.

Audience

Students should be CNE candidates or technical support personnel responsible for diagnosing and resolving problems with NetWare networks. Participants should have an understanding of (or experience with) personal computers, operating systems, and network technology; experience with DOS; a working knowledge of Windows 95 or Windows NT Workstation; and experience using NetWare. In addition, students should have taken the first two parts of this series (courses 82211-12). This course series is an approved study guide that will help certification candidates prepare for exam 50-635 and is equivalent to Novell class 580.

Unit 1: NetWare Installation

Duration: 3 - 4 Hour(s)
  • Identify the strategies, benefits and the drawbacks of the six levels of RAID.
  • Identify the advantages of RAID over individual disks.
  • Identify the features of NetWare Partitions.
  • Identify the limitations of Netware partitions.
  • Identify the guidelines for working with mirrored and duplexed hard disks.
  • Mirror two disk partitions.
  • Span the SYS volume over two disks in NetWare 5.
  • Initiate the NetWare 5 server installation by specifying the details in the CUI phase.
  • Complete the NetWare 5 server installation by specifying the details in GUI phase.

Unit 2: Troubleshooting Novell Client

  • Identify the features of the Novell Client for Windows 95 and Windows NT Workstation.
  • Identify the features of NIOS for Windows 95.
  • Identify the features of the LAN drivers used for a Novell Client on Windows 95 and Windows NT Workstation.
  • Identify the features of the communication protocols used by the Novell Client for Windows 95 and Windows NT Workstation.
  • Identify the features of the NetWare Client Requester for Windows 95 and Windows NT Workstation.
  • Identify the characteristics of NWFS.SYS for a Novell Client on Windows NT Workstation.
  • Identify the characteristics of the GINA module used for a Novell Client on a Windows NT Workstation.
  • Display the network settings by using the Control Panel.
  • Generate the NIOS.LOG file by using SYSTEM.INI.
  • Display Novell Client setting for a workstation by using the Registry.
  • Identify the network problems that can be diagnosed using protocol analyzers.
  • Identify the features of NetWare LANalyzer Agent and LANalyzer for Windows (LZFW).
  • Identify the guidelines to troubleshoot the Novell Client for Windows 95 and Windows NT Workstation.
  • Troubleshoot a Windows workstation by eliminating the hardware-related issues.
  • Troubleshoot a Windows workstation by verifying that the latest client software is installed.
  • Eliminate connection-related issues by using Control Panel.
  • Eliminate connection-related issues by using LZFW.
