Course Overview

This course is the third in a five-part series on Novell NetWare 5 Administration. This course covers managing file system security, creating and managing login scripts, and Managing Novell Directory Services (NDS) security. This course is an approved study guide that will help you prepare for certification exam 50-639 and is equivalent to Novell class 560.

Audience

This course is intended for network support professionals who plan to manage or administer networks based on NetWare 5. Students should have a basic understanding of personal computers, operating systems, and network technology; experience with DOS; and a working knowledge of Windows 95 or Windows NT Workstation. This course is also intended for students interested in gaining their Certified Novell Administrator, CNA, or Certified Novell Engineer, CNE, Certification. In addition, participants should have taken the first two parts of the Novell NetWare 5 Administration series (courses 82301-02).

Unit 1: Managing File System Security

  • Describe the various directory and file rights required to perform a specific task.
  • Match the directory and file rights with their descriptions.
  • Identify the set of rights required to accomplish a given task.
  • Identify the features of trustees.
  • Identify the Novell Directory Services (NDS) object to be assigned as a trustee in a given scenario.
  • Identify the concept of inheritance and block inheritance by creating new trustee and an Inherited Rights Filter (IRF).
  • Calculate effective rights of a user.
  • Identify the set of rights inherited by a folder in a given situation.
  • Set a new trustee assignent to block the inheritance of rights.
  • Set an IRF to block the inheritance of rights.
  • Determine the effective rights for an object in a given scenario.
  • Display the effective rights of a user by using NetWare Administrator.
  • Identify the guidelines for planning file system rights.
  • Specify the directory and file attributes to be assigned in a given scenario.
  • Set directory and file attributes by using NetWare Administrator.

Unit 3: Managing NDS Security

  • Create a new trustee assignment to block the inheritance of rights.
