Course Overview
This is the first course in a five-part series on Novell NetWare 5 Advanced Administration. This series provides the knowledge and skills necessary to design, configure, and administer a complex NetWare 5 network. This course will cover upgrading to NetWare 5, the NetWare server, and the Server Console.

Audience
Network administrators or other networking professionals that provide service and support for the NetWare 5 environment. This course is intended for experienced networking professionals. Students should have completed the NetWare 5 Administration series (82301-05) prior to taking this course. Participants should also have a basic understanding of personal computers, operating systems, and network technology, as well as experience with DOS and a working knowledge of Windows 95 or Windows NT. This course series is an approved study guide that will help certification candidates prepare for exam 50-640 and is equivalent to Novell class 570.

Unit 1: Upgrade to NetWare 5
Duration: 2 - 3 Hour(s)- Identify the ways to upgrade an existing NetWare server to NetWare 5.
- Identify each of the available protocols and when each can be used.
- Identify the tasks to prepare an existing NetWare server for an in-place upgrade to NetWare 5.
- Select the tasks that are automated during an in-place upgrade to NetWare 5.
- Identify the tasks that should be performed after an in-place upgrade to NetWare 5.
- Perform the steps to create a project.
- Perform the steps to move bindery objects from the Source area to a desired location in the Destination area.
- Perform the steps to verify that migration can proceed.
Unit 2: NetWare Server
Duration: 2 - 3 Hour(s)- Identify the features of the NetWare Kernel.
- Identify the types of tasks that can be performed from the server console.
- Match the different types of NetWare Loadable Modules (NLMs) with their definitions.
- Match standard console commands with their functions.
- Perform the steps to change a parameter's setting.
- Match hot key sequences that help navigate the server console with their functions.
- Perform the steps to load and unload a NetWare Loadable Module (NLM).
- Identify the purpose of NetWare Configuration Files (NCFs).
- Identify the types of console commands that are included in the STARTUP.NCF file.
- Perform the steps to customize the AUTOEXEC.NCF file.
- Perform the steps to create a server script file.
Unit 3: Server Console
Duration: 2 Hour(s)- Identify the purpose of the NetWare Graphical User Interface (GUI).
- Match the console commands used to load and launch Java applications with their definitions.
