Course Overview
This course is the first part of a four part series for system administrators which will provide the foundation for supporting Routing and Remote Access Service for Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0.
Learn To:
- Identify the basic concepts of routing.
- Identify the features of RRAS and the protocols supported by RRAS.
- Identify the basic concepts of RIP and install RIP.
- Configure RIP event logging and source filtering.
- Add static IP routes.

This course is intended for system administrators already familiar with routing protocols and routing services. Participants should have taken Networking Essentials (Course Series 70421-70423), Supporting Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Core Technologies (Course Series 71410-71413), Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 in the Enterprise (Course Series 71414-71420) and Internetworking Microsoft TCP/IP on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (Course Series 71435-71438).

Unit 1: RRAS: An Introduction
Duration: 3 - 4 Hour(s)- Match the internetworking terms with their definitions.
- Sequence the steps in IP routing.
- Identify the information available in a routing table.
- Identify the features of the methods used to update routing tables.
- Identify the functions of the two types of routing protocols.
- Identify the reasons for the occurrence of a routing loop.
- Match the RRAS features with the requirements that they fulfill.
- Identify the functions of the routing protocols supported by RRAS.
- Identify the RRAS installation requirements.
- Install RRAS from a Web site.
- Install RRAS from the CD.
- Remove RRAS from a Windows NT server.
- Match the Routing and RAS Admin interface components with their descriptions.
- Display a domain.
- Connect to a router.
- Restart a router.
- Create a default configuration file by using the Routing and RAS Admin utility.
- Install the Routing and RAS Admin utility on a computer other than Windows NT router.
Unit 2: RRAS Protocol: RIP for IP
Duration: 3 - 4 Hour(s)- Identify the methodologies of RIP operation.
- Match the RIP operating stages with their events.
- Sequence the process in the count to infinity convergence problem in a given situation.
- Identify the technique used to reduce the convergence time by the two schemes in RIP.
- Match the RIP version 2 features with the requirements that they fulfill.
- Install RIP for IP version 2 by using the Routing and RAS Admin utility.
- Configure RIP event logging.
- Configure RIP source filtering.
- Configure RIP message formats.
- Filter the RIP version 1 traffic after capturing the RIP version 1 traffic.
- Configure RIP support.
- View convergence by using Network Monitor.
- Configure route filtering by adding a range of network IDs to the routers range list.
- Configure RRAS for RIP version 2 security.
- Configure RIP neighbor list by adding neighbors to the neighbors list.
- Configure RIP timers and protocol options.
