Course Overview

This course is the third part of a four part series for system administrators which will provide the foundation for supporting Routing and Remote Access Service for Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0.

Learn To:

  • Enable IP packet filtering and create IP packet filters for a Windows NT router.
  • Identify the role of DHCP Relay Agent in DHCP client configuration and configure the DHCP Relay Agent.
  • Describe the RRAS support features for the IPX/SPX networks.
  • Configure PPTP and RADIUS on a Windows NT server.

This course is intended for system administrators already familiar with routing protocols and routing services. Participants should have taken Networking Essentials (Course Series 70421-70423), Supporting Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Core Technologies (Course Series 71410-71413), Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 in the Enterprise (Course Series 71414-71420), Internetworking Microsoft TCP/IP on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (Course Series 71435-71438) and completed the first two parts of the series.

Unit 1: IP Packet Filtering

Duration: 1 - 2 Hour(s)
  • Identify the concepts of IP packet filtering.
  • Match the filtering fields used in IP packet filtering with their description.
  • Enable IP packet filtering on a Windows NT router.
  • Create input filters.
  • Create local host packet filters.
  • Create IP packet filters for filtering Web and FTP traffic.

Unit 2: DHCP and DHCP Relay Agent

  • Sequence the steps in the DHCP client configuration.
  • Identify the functions of DHCP Relay Agent in the DHCP client configuration.
  • Enable DHCP Relay Agent on a computer running RRAS.
  • Configure the DHCP Relay Agent interface on a computer running RRAS.

Unit 3: RRAS Support Features for IPX Routing

  • Identify the basic concepts of IPX routing.
  • Match the fields of an IPX routing table with their functions.
  • Identify the operation stages of IPX routers during which routing tables are updated.
  • Configure RIP for IPX on a router interface running RRAS.

  • Configure an IPX filter by using the Routing and RAS Admin utility.
  • Configure the parameters of an IPX filter by using the Add/Edit IPX Filter dialog box.

  • Configure SAP filters on a computer running RRAS.
  • Configure static SAP services on a computer running RRAS.
  • Configure an IPX router for NetBIOS over IPX broadcast.
