Course Overview

This is the first course in a two-part series that covers the critical skills in planning and implementing database backup and recovery strategies. This course introduces the learners to the backup and recovery goals and functions of the various structures and processes in the Oracle architecture. In addition, participants learn to manage archive processing and maintain a recovery catalog. This course also identifies the concepts associated with performing physical backups with or without Recovery Manager (RMAN).

Unit 1: Oracle Backup and Recovery Architecture

  • Configure the database for archiving the online redo log files by setting parameters in the init.ora file.
  • Identify the data dictionary views used to obtain the archive log information.

Unit 3: Oracle Recovery Manager

  • Select the features of Recovery Manager (RMAN).
  • Start Recovery Manager by using the RMAN command.
  • Identify the events that occur during the connection process after the RMAN command is executed.
  • Select the situations in which a recovery catalog is used.
  • Identify the guidelines for creating a recovery catalog.
  • Sequence the steps to create a recovery catalog.
  • Select the control file characteristics that help in backup and recovery.
  • Register a database in the recovery catalog by using RMAN.
  • Reset the recovery catalog information to reflect the current state of the target database by using RMAN.
  • Select the situations in which the recovery catalog must be resynchronized.
  • Record information in the recovery catalog by using the CATALOG command.
  • Maintain a recovery catalog by using the CHANGE command.
  • Perform the operations to manage channel allocations.
  • Identify the options for re-creating a recovery catalog.
