This is the first course in a 3 part series that prepares learners for the Cisco CCNA ICND exam 640-811 - Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices. The course shows you how to configure a catalyst switch for basic operations. Topics covered include switching, spanning tree protocol, and access layer switch configuration. This course also describes the features and operation of VLANs, and shows you how to configure and troubleshoot them.

Verify the Catalyst switch port LEDs during the switch POST.
View the initial bootup output from a Catalyst switch.
Identify the EXEC modes for logging in to a Catalyst switch to begin initial configuration.
Identify keyboard Help features in the Catalyst switch command line interface (CLI).
Configure basic switch parameters.
Identify functions of basic switch status commands.
Identify commands for basic port configuration.
Match commands for managing MAC address tables with their functions.
Identify port security commands.
Identify guidelines for performing adds, moves, and changes to an access layer switch.
Identify commands for managing switch configuration files.
Unit 3: Introduction to VLANs (2 hours)
Identify features of a VLAN.
