Course Overview

The GroupWise System Administration curriculum is designed to teach students the fundamentals of administering a GroupWise system. In this course, students will gain skills and knowledge needed to install and configure GroupWise 5.5 clients as well as work with both single and multiple post office systems.

Learn To:

  • Teach the installation process for the GroupWise client.
  • Identify installation strategies, the installation, the configuration of the workstations, and the maintenance of the software.
  • Configure messaging for a single post office.
  • Build a GroupWise system modeled after the organizational structure of the company by adding a second post office.

Audience

System Administrators who are responsible for the setup, maintenance, and administration of a corporate groupware communication installation. Students should have administration experience with NetWare Administrator and NDS. They should also have an understanding of TCP/IP protocols and IP addressing, including DNS and DHCP. In addition, they should have taken the first part in this series (course 81605) prior to taking this course. This series is based on Novell course 350 and will help Novell CNA and CNE certification candidates prepare for exam 50-633.

Unit 1: GroupWise Client Installation

Duration: 2 - 3 Hour(s)
  • Match each client option with its description.
  • Match the platform with the minimum system requirements necessary to run the GroupWise client.
  • Identify the factors to consider when setting up the client software.
  • Identify the locations that the client checks to determine how the client will connect to the POA.
  • Grant NDS and file system rights using the GroupWise Administrator.
  • Verify that a user has an assigned IP address using Windows 95.
  • Identify the functions of the Imaging and Workflow GroupWise components.
  • Select the necessary options when installing the GroupWise client.
  • Access the GroupWise Marquee properties using Windows 95.
  • Access the GroupWise Desktop properties using Windows 95.
  • View what mode the GroupWise client is using to connect to the POA using GroupWise Help.
  • Create a password for the GroupWise client using Windows 95.
  • Match the function with its optional client parameter.
  • Send a message using the GroupWise client.
  • Sequence the steps that are used by auto-update to keep the most current version of the GroupWise client installed on the workstation(s).
  • Sequence the steps used to configure an administrator-defined setup.
  • Sequence the steps to setup GroupWise 32-bit client for distribution by Novell Application Launcher.

Unit 2: Single Post Office Configuration

  • Identify the components of a message held in the message store.
  • Identify the attributes of the message databases within the OFMSG directory.
  • Identify the attributes of the prime user database within the OFUSER directory.
  • Identify the attributes of the OFFILES directory.
  • Identify the processes that move message components to the message store.
  • Sequence the steps used to move items between the input and output queues.
  • Identify the priority subdirectories within the WPCSIN and WPCSOUT directories.
  • Identify the benefits of the guardian database.
  • Match the access method to its determinant.
  • Identify the effects of the client/server access mode.
  • Access the delivery modes using NetWare Administrator.
  • Sequence the interactions that occur between the client and the application threshold exceeded during message
