Unit 1: Retention and Orientation (0.5 - 1 hour)

  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation, you will meet with Linda Autry, a newly promoted Call Center Supervisor in Icon's Consumer Products and Services Division. Linda will need to hire two additional Customer Service Representatives as part of a departmental expansion. In addition, she will be responsible for the orientation of the new employees. Linda has some experience with recruiting employees but has never been in charge of a new-hire orientation program. As Linda's manager, you will need to explain the importance of retaining employees, as well as review the orientation process in order to ensure Linda's success.
Unit 2: Work Environment and Feedback (0.5 - 1 hour)
  • Identify aspects of the work environment that affect employee retention.
  • Sequence the steps for conducting a feedback session.
  • Follow the process for conducting a feedback session.
  • Simulation Overview:
  • In this simulation, you will first meet with Dean Kramer and Elizabeth. As the Employee Relations Specialist, it will be your job to discuss the various reasons the plant has seen an increase in employee turnover during the past year. Next, you will conduct an informal feedback session with Bruce Madison, a Line Supervisor for the second shift. Bruce has recently lost three key employees from his team, so your goal during this session is to determine why the employees left, as well as what can be done to prevent this from happening in the future.
Unit 3: Job Structure and Coaching (1 - 2 hours)
  • Identify aspects to consider when analyzing job structure.
  • Select ways to build a coaching relationship with employees.
  • Sequence the steps for the coaching process.
