But sometimes there is more to it than that. Traditional sales training covers the product and the methodology appropriate to your company s sales process. With suitable guidance on the application of skills from the Sales Leaders, you will get performance improvement from most of your team. You may even have a team that are successfully achieving their targets. But what about their resilience? Some industries require a great level of persistence and the ability to handle rejection day after day to meet targets. Eventually this takes it s toll on the best of us, and can lead to increased absenteeism, stress related medical leave, or just plain attrition as sales people quit in the hope that things will be better somewhere else. If members of your team are not achieving target, they may well have the knowledge of WHAT to do, but are getting stuck with HOW to do it. Self Limiting Beliefs We all have self limiting beliefs, about everything. These are glass ceilings that can inhibit our performance. Where the ceiling is lower than the performance required, we have a problem. Motivation and Positive Affirmations A positive attitude is certainly essential for success. But simply making positive statements to yourself won t change anything. Utilisation of Neuro linguistic techniques and coaching creates new positive neural pathways in the brain, which will induce a different mindset. Unfortunately these are temporary solutions. The effect fades and it is necessary to keep repeating the exercise. This is because the negative thought or emotion is still present in the brain. You have created a psychological reversal as the two opposing pathways conflict. This stalemate often exhibits as procrastination. Neuro scientists will say that a neural pathway cannot be removed from the brain. This is correct. However it is possible to diminish or permanently remove the charge from a negative or unhelpful pathway. Once this is done your behaviour is no longer dictated by the negative thought or emotion. Even without a new positive pathway being created, with the obstacle to performance removed, performance will improve. Going one step further and creating new positive neural pathways and hence mindset is vastly more effective. In The Mindset of Selling, we utilise professional non-directive coaching and applied kinesiology to help identify issues then a combination of coaching, neuro-linguistics and energy psychology to eliminate them.
