HAZWOPER 40 Hour Course, Denver, CO


HP&P Safety
The 40 Hour HAZWOPER course is the initial training required by OSHA, under Standard 29 CFR Part 1910. 120, for any employees who are exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous substances - including hazardous waste. According to OSHA, HAZWOPER (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) applies to 5 distinct groups of employers and their employees:
- Clean-up operations conducted at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites;
- Corrective actions involving clean-up operations at sites covered by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 (RCRA);
- Voluntary clean-up operations at sites recognized by Federal, State, Local, or other governmental body as uncontrolled hazardous waste sites;
- Operations involving hazardous wastes that are conducted at treatment, storage, and disposal facilities (TSDF) and
- Emergency response operations for releases of, or substantial threats of releases of, hazardous substances regardless of the location of the hazard.

After completing the course, participants will:
- Be familiar with finding topics and applicable rules in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs) and the Emergency Response Guide (ERG) books
- Understand basic chemical and toxicological terminology and behavior
- Can identify hazardous materials in the workplace or work site and the possible methods, symptoms and preventative measures of exposure
- Know how to implement procedures for treating workers in the event of hazardous exposure
- Know how to implement your company's Emergency Response Plan
- Be able to select and use proper and/ or specialized Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Be able to function with an assigned role in the Incident Command System
- Understand and implement decontamination and containment procedures
- Be knowledgeable in offensive operations that may involve contact with the hazardous material
- Be able to perform advanced control, containment and/ or confinement of the hazardous substance or material

Note: The HAZWOPER 40 Hour course (sometimes referred to as OSHA 40 Hour) is the minimum training requirement for all employees who have the potential to come into contact with hazardous substances and/ or waste. Managers and Supervisors on hazardous waste sites require additional training. An 8 Hour Refresher training is required annually in order to maintain current HAZWOPER certification.
Participants will receive a HP&P photo ID wallet card and a certificate showing completion of HAZWOPER 40 Hour Training.

* If these class dates do not work with your schedule, we have a second classroom that can be scheduled for HAZWOPER 40 Hour Training. We do require reservations for groups of 5 or more. You choose the dates and we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.
