Course Description:
The purpose of this manual is to provide an overview of Mistake Proofing methodology. The text was developed for training purposes and to provide a reference for future use.
The text was written to provide for the reader techniques of mistake proofing to improve performance. Dr. Shigeo Shingo created the concepts of Mistake Proofing. Simons-White & Associates wrote the material respecting his concepts, and added additional ideas to further the learning experience.
Mistake Proofing is a fundamental part of Continuous Improvement when process meets product. Defects, errors and accidents are all results of either a poor process or product design. Mistake proofing techniques provide the strategy to improve both product and process performance while taking into account all the traits of human interaction.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
Define mistake proofing and why we need it.
Apply mistake proofing to current problems
List Major types of errors and their causes
Differentiate between different types of inspection
Outline the different phases of product development and when mistake proofing should be addressed
Outline the levels of Mistake Proofing
