Hazardous Area Instrumentation (Standard)

The program consists of the following SIX parts
1. Basic Concepts. This covers all concepts necessary to gain understanding of the topic including flammable materials, flash point, auto-ignition, Lower Explosive Limit & Upper Explosive Limit, Fire triangle, etc.

2. Classification. This covers Area Classification, Material classification, Temperature classification, National & International Standards for classification, Zones, Gas Groups, Divisions, practical guidelines for carrying out area classification,etc with practical examples.

3. Methods of Protection. This is the main part of the course and covers all methods of explosion protection including but not limited to Explosion proof/Flameproof, Intrinsic Safety (including the entity concept, designing Instrument loops with barriers and isolators), Increased safety, Non-incendive method, Pressurization & Purging, Weather protection (IP and NEMA codes).

4. Fieldbus. This part covers the implementation of a Fieldbus in hazardous areas. This includes concepts like FNICO, FISCO, etc

5. Certification & Testing. This part covers the certification of instruments that are used in hazardous areas. Includes an introduction to the new ATEX guidelines.

6. Maintenance. The integrity of an explosion-protected facility has to be maintained properly.This module gives guidelines and practical hints to do this.
