Full Description
Reaching Teenagers This tutorial will give you specific ways you can reach out to teens and provide asset building programs in your library. You will be given tools that you can utilize to begin defining or redefining your teen program. At the end of each course section, you will complete projects that may be used to define your teen program. This course is for 2 CE credits.


Outcomes:
At the end of the course, you will be able to:
  1. Identify the competencies your teens need to build based on your research
  2. Develop a teen program focusing on your specific demographics
  3. Evaluate your teen program to determine its effectiveness.
This course addresses these issues and more in a web-based course designed to take about 2 hours to complete.


Assessment:
This course is self-directed and assessments are graded immediately upon completion.

Introduction An introduction to the course objectives and the challenges facing libraries regarding reaching the teens in the community.
Who Are Our Teens? A look at the teens of today, getting to know teens and their needs, and the role of the libraries with young adults.
What Do Our Teens Need? This lesson focuses on competencies for librarians serving youth, developing adolescents, and the 40 developmental assets.
How Do I Reach My Teens? This lesson covers positive asset building opportunities and discusses a wide variety of ideas for building programs that will reach today’s teens.
How Do I Ensure the Program is Effective? Evaluating your program to make sure it is meeting the need.
