Improving Co-Worker Relationships Do you need some fresh ideas to help resolve library workplace issues? This course, authored by noted library and organization consultant Pat Wagner, is based on proven theories of communication, which can help you and your library. In just an hour or two, this course will give you some fresh perspective on strengthening communication weaknesses in your library, along with some practical tools to tackle specific co-worker problems you may be worrying about today. This course addresses these issues and more in a web-based course designed to take about 1.5 hours to complete. This course is for 2 CE credits.


Outcomes:
This course, authored by noted library and organization consultant Pat Wagner, is based on proven theories of communication, which can help you and your library co-workers to:
  1. Understand the different communication techniques of fellow worker
  2. Evaluate when a problem is a personal issue, versus a personnel issue
  3. Discover ways to realistically cope with difficult situations
  4. Criticize one another effectively, in a creative and positive atmosphere
  5. Disagree and still get along
  6. Realize that different ideas often lead to positive outcome, even if we don`t see it at the time
  7. Deal with situations where not everyone is doing his/her job Reduce stress among busy co-workers
  8. Succeed in building valuable new relationships with difficult co-workers

Introduction An introduction to the course objectives and an overview for improving co-worker relations.
The Two Rules of Communication This lesson discusses the two rules of communication and provides insights into how communications breakdowns result in problems between co-workers.
Being Reasonable This lesson covers learning and applying the “reasonable person” test to situations.
What Messages Are You Sending? This lesson covers the topic of non-verbal communication and the messages you may not be aware of that you may be sending to your co-workers.
Positive and Negative Behaviors This lesson covers topics on how to have positive behavior, evaluating your own behavior, civility, phoniness and other negative behaviors.
Three Principles of Behavior This section covers three basic principles of behavior and discusses how individuals can change their frame of reference to improve their behavior and the behavior of others.
