This course is one of twelve necessary to be able to pass the qualification exams to gain the IT industry certification Cisco Certified Network Associate. (CCNA)
This unit introduces you to the features and functions of X.25. In addition, you will become familiar with the concept of packet switching as well as with the features of two types of virtual circuits.
You will be presented with information that describes the need for Address Resolution and how it relates to transferring data across a network. This unit also introduces the X.25 protocol suite as it is mapped against the OSI reference model. Specifically, the PLP, LAPB, and X.21bis protocols, which make-up the X.25 protocol, are discussed. Also explained is the LAPB frame format and its various fields, as well as the process of encapsulation within X.25 and LAPB protocols.
You will learn about the various commands needed to configure X.25, layer 3 parameters such as virtual circuit numbers, packet size, and window size. The unit also covers the steps required to configure the router with these parameters. Finally, you will learn the procedure to configure a router as a local or remote switch and configure X.25 traffic over TCP (XOT).
