This unit discusses the characteristics of RIP, static & default routes, administrative distance, improved metric and unequal cost load balancing, of Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP). This course is one of twelve necessary to be able to pass the qualification exams to gain the IT industry certification Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
This unit defines static and default routes, lists the commands that can be used to configure static and default routes, and discusses the advantages of static routes. Routing tables are also defined in this unit. The unit also defines administrative distance and discusses the default administrative distances of routing information sources such as static routes, RIP, and IGRP, characteristics of the Routing Information Protocol (RIP), how RIP uses hop count as its metric. The stability features of RIP such as split horizon, hold down mechanism, and hop count limits are discussed. This unit also teaches the differences between RIP version 1 and RIP version 2, illustrates packet formats of both RIP versions, details the commands that are used to add RIP to the router configuration as well as the commands used to monitor an RIP network. Other features discussed are improved metric and unequal cost load balancing, of Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP), How IGRP uses internetwork delay, bandwidth, reliability, load, and MTU as its composite metrics, features IGRP provides such as hold downs, split horizons, and poison-reverse to enhance its stability and the commands that are used to add IGRP to a router configuration and the commands used to monitor an IGRP network.
