Java 2 -- Extending the GUI


Full Description
In the first unit, you will learn to use fonts in a program. The unit explains the Font and FontMetrics classes and their methods. You will learn to create menus and dialog boxes by using the methods provided in the Menu Class and Dialog class.

The second unit explains the event handling mechanism in Java and lists the classes and interfaces of the java.awt.event package. It explains the delegation event model in JDK 1.2 and the three main components of the model: event, event source, and event listener. You will learn about the various AWT event classes. Finally, you will implement the appropriate event listener interfaces for handling events

The third unit explains the procedure for handling the mouse window, and key events. You will learn to implement the WindowListener, MouseListener, MouseMotionListener, and KeyListener interfaces. The unit introduces the concept of adapter classes and explains the advantages of using adapter classes. Finally, the unit describes inner and anonymous classes and explains their use in event handling.


Outcomes:
Students will be able to describe and use fonts, create menus and dialog boxes, handle events in Java and know interfaces & classes in the event package. Students will also know the delegation event model and the three main components of the model. Students will implement event listeners.


Assessment:
Students will experience Pre-Topic and Post-Topic Assessments, as well as practice and assessments and each section within this course.
