Blackboard Basics is a twenty-one day online course which is designed to not only teach you about the online classroom but to immerse you in it so that you are experiencing and discovering the environment from all aspects possible.
This course will help you learn how to develop and to manage your course using Blackboard 6.
This course is offered by a State Accredited University and offers State Board Continuing Education credits for Michigan teachers.? If you are located in a state other than Michigan, please check to see if your State Board will honor the Continuing Education Credit.? The course provider will be happy to provide you with appropriate documentation.
This course is designed for K12 teachers but the concepts and examples will translate for any online course developer.

Lesson 1 - Converting On-Ground Courses to Online courses In this lesson, you become familiar with the online environment.? You will learn about the tools available in Blackboard and the functions and use of the control panel. Lesson 2 - Creating Course Materials for Online Delivery Lesson 2 helps you create a quality online syllabus and develop online course materials.? Ideas and guidelines for developing course content and information on how to use the web as a resource in your course are explored. Lesson 3 - Major Assignment Types This lesson discusses assignment types and the various ways you can ask students to submit them. Lesson 4 - Enhancing your Online Courses Learn to use a variety of media options in your course.? You will take a look at special considerations when using multimedia in your course.? Group based activities are introduced along with suggestions for keeping students on track so they complete the course on time. Lesson 5 - Communicating Online Lesson 5 details a variety of methods of communication available in an online course.? Suggestions on ways to combine e-mail, chat rooms and discussion boards are covered. Lesson 6 - Assessments This lesson helps you understand online assessments and the issues related to testing online.? Question types are detailed and explored. Lesson 7 - Grading Online gradebooks require a good set up to work effectively.? Using weighted grades and the organization of a gradebook are discussed.

- be able to create Assessments and use the Online Gradebook
Assessment
Grading Policies:? This course is self-directed and assessments are graded immediately upon completion. Please check your success in the Tools, Gradebook area. Assessments can be re-taken any time during the course. This course allows you to earn 2 SB-CEUs which is available to anyone completing the course with a 70% or better passing score.
