Basic Course in Spiritualism
INTRODUCTION
The Basic Course in Modern Spiritualism consists of 12 separate but interrelated topics that are essential to the student's gaining a firm grounding in the Religion, Philosophy and Science of Modern Spiritualism. Pictures and other resources are also available and new related content will be added as it becomes available.
At the beginning of each section you will find several questions that are designed to make you think about and express your understanding of the material and any other additional, related reading you may be doing as you complete this course. For each question, the student is expected to complete an essay of at least 500 words, which must include secondary source citations that demonstrate where you have gotten the ideas, presented in your essay.
The tutors are experienced Spiritualists with a wide range of experiential and academic backgrounds. They are here to help you expand your knowledge and suggest further reading for your continued educational interest and success. We can only do that if we know what you understand of what you read.
It is expected that you as the student will go beyond the act of presenting a simple list of unrelated facts. In each your essays, there should be a concerted effort to organize and analyze as well as an attempt to draw conclusions that demonstrate deeper understanding that goes beyond the basic facts collected and presented.
Your experience with and study of other related material will increase your depth of personal knowledge. Ability to research and present information is a skill that is learned just as any other.
The tutors hope that completing this course will help you to build an understanding of Modern Spiritualism as well as research and writing skills that you can take with you and apply successfully in your every day life. After all, Spiritualism is a way of life and a religion, philosophy and science that is to be studied not preached!
The position of argument or opinions you express in your essays, of course, depend on personal experiences, but they must also demonstrate an accurate understanding of the concepts, ideas and principles that constitute Modern Spiritualism. While sources from other traditions are interesting and add to your knowledge, please keep in mind that this course is limited in scope to the core theories upon which Modern Spiritualism is based, so we ask that you stay within these parameters when you write your essays.
Wishing you full success in your educational endeavour!
