Course outline
1. TSM 5. 3 Concept Review and New Features
o This unit will present the new features available for TSM 5. 3 in an overview format. There is also a review of basic TSM concepts to make sure there is a base of knowledge for the course to proceed on.
2. Administrative Interfaces
o In this unit the different administrative interfaces are covered. The new Administration Center, which replaced the Web Administration tool, is covered. The administrative command line client and the Management Console for Windows systems are also covered.
3. Database, Log and Storage Pool Manipulations
o This unit explains the concepts dealing with the database and log, and how they are sized and expanded. The exercises for this unit provide the opportunity to learn how to manage the data storage used by the storage hierarchy.
4. Database and Storage Pool Problem Determinations
o This unit is consists of exercises. There is a short presentation and then you will work with three different problem determination labs that help you learn how to recover the TSM server after anomalies have occurred.
5. Macros and Scripts
o In this unit you will see how writing macros and scripts can help with the automation of common tasks. You will also see that scripts can be scheduled thus reducing the number of schedules required.
6. Network Configuration and TSM Performance Issues
o Performance and tuning parameters and options will be covered in this unit. Guidelines will be presented and you will also work with network backup capabilities when there are nodes that exist across the WAN environment from the TSM Server installation.

7. Reporting
o Reporting tools are covered in the unit. The SQL interface along with the ODBC driver and connectivity are reviewed. The Operational Reporting Manager is also presented so you see the capabilities of this included utility.
8. Problem Determination Concepts
o Since there may be times when TSM support will need you to run a trace, this unit covers what traces are and how to run them. Tracing will be examined from the server and client perspective.
9. Backup and Restore Methodology
o This unit covers many backup and restore methods not presented in the Implementation course. Some of the items examined will be multi-session backup and restore, open file support, image backup (static and online snapshot), backup groups and moving data by node to name a few.
10. Enterprise Administration
o Unit 10 will establish a good foundation in how to configure multiple instances of TSM servers in support of Enterprise Administration. Also covered in this unit is the establishment of a configuration manager server for propagation of objects in a controlled methodology from the manager to other TSM servers.
11. Server-to-server Virtual Volumes
o The capability to store backup and archive data for a TSM server on another TSM server is studied in this unit. This capability is available through the use of virtual volumes. The exploitation of these virtual volumes database backups and disaster recovery is explored.
