This course focuses on techniques to ensure accurate and timely output from digital layout files, beginning with an exploration of workflow - the tasks and processes required to prepare, package and deliver efficient digital content to their graphic arts service providers. Students will learn the specific roles that various people play in the process - from the designer, to the mechanical artist, to the customer service representative, imaging experts, and output specialists and provides real-world examples of output challenges, and the solutions that ensure proper output. Included is: The systems and tools used in creating and outputting commercial graphics, overviewing the most common tools used in the industry; Elements of a digital job package, covering type and fonts, color, graphics and images, and page layout; The job package, including proofs, forms, and the steps for submitting a job package. Procedures are examined from the perspectives of the designer, the CSR, and the pre press operator. Prerequisites: Familiarity with QuarkXPress, Adobe PageMaker, and Adobe Photoshop is required. This course is offered for both Mac & Windows.
