This course is for those working in a dental environment but who do not have specific dental training. It is ideal for secretaries, receptionists, dental nurses and practice managers.
The Introduction to Dentistry Course is a classroom based course and is designed to enable participants to understand common dental terminology and basic issues in dentistry in order to make them more efficient and effective in their day to day roles.
The objectives of the course are to enable delegates to be able to:
a describe how medical terms are formed and be able to state the meaning of specific terms relating to dentistry;
a identify the anatomical parts of the tooth, gingiva and upper/ lower jaw bones;
a describe the difference between dental caries, erosion and periodontal disease;
a explain the importance of oral hygiene and associated health issues;
a recognise methods of dental charting;
a explain why there are different dental specialities and the principles of each.

Introduction to Dentistry and Dental Terminology
This highly interactive course is designed for those who
are working in the dental field without dental training including dental receptionists, practice managers and dental nurses. All delegates will be provided with a course manual and will be issued with a certificate upon completion of the course.
Delegates will expand their understanding of dental terminology. They will also be able to recognise a wide range of abbreviations. The course also covers basic anatomy and physiology of the tooth.
The course covers the following areas:
- Structure of the tooth and anatomical terms;
- Dental examination and oral health;
- Primary and secondary dentition and charting of teeth;
- Treatments and dental specialities;
- Dental and medical terminology;
- Dental personnel and associations.
All delegates will be provided with a course manual and will be issued with a certificate upon completion of the course.
