This is a one day instructor led introductory programme Covering the basics of oncology and cancers. It can be followed by optional modules looking in more detail at specific cancers.
The introductory day is designed to enable delegates to be able to:
* state what cancer is and how and why it occurs;
* decipher simple and more complex medical terms associated with cancer;
* describe and explain the use of various diagnostic procedures used in cancer treatment;
* describe how the progression of cancer is recorded and how the stage and grade affects prognosis;
* explain different treatments for cancer, describing the side effects and the possible impact on the patient.
The follow on modules cover:
- Bowel cancer;
- Breast cancer;
- Leukaemia;
- Lung cancer;
- Lymphomas;
- Myelomas;
- Ovarian cancer;
- Prostate cancer;
- Skin cancers.

Review session
This can be followed by half day modules covering bowel cancer, breast cancer, leukaemia, lung cancer, lymphomas, myelomas, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, and skin cancers.
These modules deal with relevant anatomy and the signs and symptoms, diagnosis, staging and prognosis, and treatment or the relevant cancer.
