The Intermediate Medical Terminology Course is designed to increase delegatesa knowledge of medical terminology in certain medical specialties in order to develop their own competence and confidence and maximise the effectiveness of patient care.
The objectives of the course are to enable delegates to be able to:
a identify root word terminology relating to:
-ear, nose and throat (ENT) & respiratory system;
-obstetrics and gynaecology;
-orthopaedics;
-cardiology;
-gastroenterology;
-nephrology;
-general medicine/ general surgery.
a state the meaning of various medical prefixes and suffixes;
a explain the meaning of certain medical abbreviations including those relating to the above subjects.
The course is ideal for staff who have attended the a Introduction to Medical Terminologya course or already have a familiarity with medical terms gained through experience and who wish to expand their knowledge further.

* Recognising the construction of medical terms
* Ear, nose and throat (ENT) & respiratory system root words and abbreviations
* Understanding medical suffixes
* Use of suffixes in conjunction with ENT & respiratory system
* Obstetrics and Gynaecology
* Extending the suffixes
* Commonly used medical abbreviations
* Orthopaedics
* Cardiology
Day 2
* Gastroenterology
* Suffix revision quiz
* Nephrology root words, associated terms & abbreviations
* Prefix workshops, understanding and identifying
* General surgery & General medicine letter transcription
* Revision quizzes of Day 1 terminology & abbreviations
* Revision crossword
* Deciphering medical pictionary
* Medical degrees and titles
