Form-Based Coding: An Alternative to Conventional Zoning

Lorman Education Services
Training Provided by Lorman Education Services BenefitsThis teleconference will provide a basic understanding of form-based codes: how they are different, how they can be applied and how they can help implement more sustainable communities. Lessons learned and steps toward beginning the process will provide you with a clear path toward a successful form-based code. Legal and practical considerations associated with adopting form-based zoning regulations will be reviewed. Form-based provisions may not fit neatly into a municipality's existing zoning and subdivision framework. Practitioners must consider a variety of legal issues, such as the municipality's general authority to adopt form-based provisions, application and approval processes, and the treatment of nonconforming structures in a form-based district. This teleconference is based on publicly available information concerning the LEED rating and certification system, and is not specifically endorsed or approved by the U.S. Green Building Council. Learning Objectives: - You will be able to interpret key issues addressed by form-based codes. - You will be able to list elements of form-based codes. - You will be able to repeat legal considerations and regulations. - You will be able to review of the application and approval processes. Attorneys, presidents, vice presidents, project managers, engineers, architects, developers, planners, principals, real estate professionals, city officials, lenders, surveyors, title officers and land use officials
