As operating pressure plants age, premature leaks or rupture are increasingly likely. Mechanisms such as corrosion, creep, fatigue, the possibility of cracks emanating from damaged areas could lead to dramatic consequences.
It is fundamental to understand degradation mechanisms, their likelihood of occurring in the facility and the impact that they may have on the facility.
This intensive course describes degradation mechanisms found in refineries, the pulp and paper and power plant industry, affected materials, critical factors used to identify the mechanism of the damage, prevention/ mitigation measures, inspection and monitoring recommendations used for risk based inspection implementation.
Throughout the course actual case histories are used to highlight and identify the degradation mechanisms relevant to the client's facility.

Plant degradation mechanism for aging plants an essential skill for Risk Base Inspection
Identification of the operative damage mechanisms.
What are the potential degradation mechanisms?
What level of degradation is tolerable?
What mechanism caused the damage?
Selection of appropriate Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) techniques for detecting/ characterizing equipment damage.
Setting up effective inspection plans requires an in-depth understanding of what kind of damage to look for and how to identify it.
Methodologies for Risk-Based Inspection (RBI).
Review of data and information requirements for the RBI assessment identification of the operative damage mechanisms.
Extensive real world cases of equipment damage and failures are used throughout the course as well as learning exercises for delegates.
