Design Tips for Rain Gardens: Storm Water and Runoff Control

Lorman Education Services
Training Provided by Lorman Education Services nRain gardens have been used to beautify landscapes while improving runoff quality since their inception in Prince George's County, Maryland, in the early 1990's. Research has shown that their cousin, bioretention, does a very good job of reducing pollutant loads, reducing runoff volumes and increasing infiltration, spurring regulators to look favorably on these practices. What these systems look like, how they work, where to locate them, how deep and how large their footprint should be, the best vegetation, construction tips and maintaining the gardens will be reviewed during this teleconference. A brief summary of how well these infiltrating vegetative filters work will also be reviewed. n nLearning Objectives n- You will be able to locate rain gardens on properties. n- You will be able to design size and vegetation for your garden. n- You will be able to manage your garden. n- You will be able to explain how rain garden systems work.
