nNearly every employer at one time or another has received a garnishment, whether for taxes, child support or general creditors. Failing to follow garnishment laws can be very costly for employers, and thus it is critical to carefully follow the requirements of any garnishment. This teleconference will explain the different kinds of garnishments under federal law and their use and limitations. It will provide you with a common sense and practical guide for fulfilling the legal imposed by such garnishments, including establishing protocols for the receipt, implementation and termination of garnishments, the proper calculation of the amount to garnish, what to do with garnished funds and how to terminate the garnishment. Time will also be devoted to special situations, such as the independent contractors, bankruptcy and employees out on leave.
