PhD Independent or Interdisciplinary Studies by distance learning

Calamus Extension College Ltd
Ph.D. or Doctoral Degree Program Provided by Calamus Extension College Ltd PhD. (Doctor of Philosophy) in Independent or Interdisciplinary Studies. A distance learning program - entry at any time of year possible. This option allows independent scholars to propose a PhD topic in their field and complete it by research or submission of an unpublished major work or manuscript. Most non-laboratory and non-invasive fields of study may be considered for PhD registration provided there is either (a) a suitable adjunct faculty member of the University, or (b) a suitably qualified external mentor already known to you who is able to vouch for your work and provide guidance towards submission of a thesis. The mentor will normally be asked to be an external examiner and will be given details of the required procedures. If you have an external mentor, please provide details with your application or enquiry. In cases where there is no mentor/ adunct available with expert knowledge of your precise field, the scholar (i. e. yourself) may be regarded as the expert, and general support will be given regarding presentation of the thesis, comments on its readability and the structure of arguments, etc. This program does not require any taught courses as it is based on the European concept of competing a doctor of philosophy degree by research and thesis alone. This program is ideal for students with ABD status who, subject to approval, can transfer to Calamus for completion of the PhD by dissertation. It is also suitable for writers who are working on an unpublished manuscript which may be considered in lieu of a traditional thesis. Instead of having an artifically long period of study, we register the student for 18 months initially, since most independent scholars have already done a significant amount of preparation and can submit the thesis in reasonable time. If more time is needed after 18 months, continuation fees will be charged to extend the registration. This program leads to the doctor of philosophy degree of Calamus International University, a global distance learning university that is not accredited by any government-recognised body. CIU degrees are not UK or US degrees. Due to the credit crunch this program is available at a very favourable tuition fee starting at GBP (Pounds Sterling) 995. The student is responsible for paying for any textbooks, research expenses, and local mentor fees as applicable.
