Basic AC Measurement
MEAS201 - Basic AC Measurement
This is an introductory course on basic AC measurements. The quantities involved in AC measurement are inherently complex, in that many parameters have associated with them a magnitude and a phase. This course assumes some knowledge of AC circuit theory, and basic understanding of complex numbers. As a result there are two prerequisites for this course MATH110 - Introduction to Complex Arithmetic and EE102 - Basic AC Circuit Theory. This is required to make the connection between AC circuit theory and complex numbers in order to understand the basic measurements.
The course outline is as follows:
- Introduction
- Voltage Measurement
- Voltmeter
- Oscilloscope
- The Transformer
- Voltage Dividers
- The Inductive Voltage Divider
- The Capacitive Voltage Divider
- The Resistive Voltage Divider
- Thermal Voltage Converters (TVC)
- Josephson Junction Arrays
- Current Measurement
- Current Shunts
- Current Probes
- Impedance Measurement
- Capacitance
- Inductance
- Resistance and Reactance
- Phase
- Power and Power Factor
- Frequency
- Spectrum
