Patients' Rights Update

Lorman Education Services
Training Provided by Lorman Education Services nHealth care providers, particularly long term care providers, mental health providers and hospices, have become increasingly aware of patients' rights concerns in recent years. Many states have passed bills of rights for their residents living in mental health, skilled nursed or other health care facilities. These bills of rights cover basic and not so basic concerns. From the right to be treated with dignity, respect and compassion to the right to privacy, patients and their representatives are speaking out to protect their interests. In this environment, managing patient expectations and providing quality care to patients remain critical for health care providers. When is a patient competent to refuse treatment? How is competency determined? What documents should a health care provider have copies of upon admission? Practically, how does a health care provider manage expectations, of both the patient and family or friends, when a patient refuses care or reaches the end of his or her life? This teleconference will address the current state of patients' rights and provide guidance into managing these situations. n nLorman Business Center, Inc. dba Lorman Education Services is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Wisconsin Nurses Association Continuing Education Approval Program Committee, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. n nThis program qualifies for 1.5 contact hours.
