Paid Sick Leave Update: Policies and Procedures in an Evolving Workplace

Lorman Education Services
Training Provided by Lorman Education Services nMany employers voluntarily provide their employees with paid sick leave. Increasingly, however, states and localities are dictating that employers allow employees to use these voluntarily-provided paid sick leave benefits for reasons beyond those covered by the employer's program. In some cases, states and localities have begun to mandate that employers provide employees with a minimum paid sick leave benefit if an employer does not already do so. And while currently federal law only mandates unpaid leave for covered employers, in the near future, it is possible that paid-sick leave programs will be mandated by the federal government. How can employers maintain absence-control programs in light of these evolving legal obligations? Learn about what states and localities have laws that address paid sick leave, the pros and cons of paid sick leave policies vs. PTO plans, and how to structure your plans so that you remain legally compliant but still minimize abuse of attendance policies.
