Introduction to New ICD-10 Coding: Preparing for Implementation

Lorman Education Services
Training Provided by Lorman Education Services nThe International Classification of Disease and Operations, Ninth Edition has out-lived its usefulness for capturing morbidity and mortality amongst the world population. Most developed nations transitioned to ICD-10 several years ago, but because of the tie of ICD-9-CM to payments in the United States there have been a series of delays in the US implementation. As the US moves a lightening speed towards an electronic health record, there has been a renewed emphasis on transition since ICD-9-CM is not compatible with a true electronic health record. In January 2009, the Department of Health and Human Services published a Final Rule for the adoption of ICD-10 effective October 1, 2013. While this seems like a significant time period in order to get ready, there is a tremendous amount of preparation required. This teleconference is designed to help you understand all the ways in which the transition to ICD-10 will affect your organization. It will begin with a basic understanding of how the two systems differ. The bulk of the teleconference will address the specific issues relating to hospitals, physician offices and other providers, and payors. The final segment will focus on the planning process addressing what you need to be doing today versus two years from now and the implication of delaying the planning process.
