Wilderness First Responder
The Wilderness First Responder course is the highest medical certification available under EMT. This 80 hour course is designed for those who spend a great deal of time in the out-of-doors, whether it be as an outting club trek leader, Search and Rescue professional, environmental educator, or others who are in a position of leadership in an outdoor setting or individuals who want a high level of medical training for extended personal back-country trips or expeditions.
The WFR course curriculum is designed to not only give students a thorough understanding of the principals of wilderness emergency treatment and protocols, but also the ability to handle virtually any emergency they may come across in a remote setting. It's a very intense - but fun course!

Wilderness First Responder
This 80-hour course is specifically designed for outdoor educators, guides, SAR teams and others who are in a position of leadership in an outdoor setting or individuals who want a high level of medical training for extended personal back-country trips or expeditions. This course is designed for not only those that have next to no medical training - as well as medical professionals. The way we accomplish this is through our various well-proven teaching methods which address all levels of prior training and knowledge.
The course is normally taught in one of two formats: the 9-day format, which is taught over the course of a nine-day period (4 days on, 1 day off, 4 days on) or 3-weekend format, which is taught over the course of 3 consecutive weekends (Fri/ Sat/ Sun, Sat, Fri/ Sat/ Sun). Both of which offer a comprehensive look at not only properly identifying and managing life--threatening injuries and illnesses that could appear in a wilderness setting (more than 60 minutes away from definitive care), but also incorporates hands-on rescue scenarios, evacuation planning and procedures, and other aspects of long term patient care and wilderness situation management.
Many of the topics taught in WFR are the same as are taught in our 25 hour Wilderness First Aid course, however they are covered far more extensively, and there is much more hands-on practice. There are also a number of topics taught in WFR that are not covered in WFA.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a CWS WFR certification which is good for two years. A three day recertification course is also available for those who have not lapsed current WFR certification. WFR refresher courses are offered to anyone that who currently holds a WFR certification from one of the following organizations: Center for Wilderness Safety, SOLO, WMI, or WMA.
