QPR Suicide Triage Training This American Psychological Association course introduces the "QPR Suicide Triage Method" for suicide risk assessment and documentation. In addition, suicide risk factors, the epidemiology of suicide, the relationship of suicide to mental illness and substance use, suicide risk reduction practices and limitations in suicide risk assessment are also reviewed. Frequently Asked Questions WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE? All "first responders" including: crisis line workers, law enforcement, fire fighters, EMTs, clergy, case managers, correctional personnel, school counselors, residential staff, and others who come in contact with people at risk for suicide. WHAT WILL BE TAUGHT? In addition to studying the risk factors for suicide, you will learn how to question suicidal persons, persuade them to accept help, refer them to resources, and determine the immediate risk for suicide. QPR Suicide Triage Training Outcomes
  • State the background, rationale and guidelines for the QPR Suicide Triage Method.
  • Identify information on suicide risk reduction practices and critical information on unrecognized suicide risk.
  • Discuss the epidemiology of suicide and describe the relationship between mental illness and suicide.
  • State at least ten risk factors for suicide and state what methods of suicide are used in America.
  • State clinical risk information important to assessing suicidal persons and the current limitations in suicide risk assessment.
  • Describe research findings regarding suicide risk versus trait variables and state how and why mental health treatment is critical to saving lives.
  • Use the QPR Suicide Triage Interview format, including asking the "Suicide Question," supporting the suicidal person's decision to get help, assisting the suicidal person in accessing additional resources and completing the "QPR Suicide Triage Document."

INSTRUCTOR PROFILE - Paul Quinnett, Ph.D.

Paul Quinnett is a clinical psychologist and President of the QPR Institute, an educational organization dedicated to preventing suicide.

Dr. Quinnett is also Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at the University Of Washington School Of Medicine in Seattle, Washington and the current Editor-in-Chief of the USA Journal, 'Preventing Suicide'.

In addition to directing a large, public sector mental health program for 30 years, he maintained a private practice in psychotherapy, law enforcement and corporate consulting.

The QPR Institute have researched, tested and published a series of award-winning and best-practices professional training programs and protocols in the assessment, management and monitoring of patients at risk for suicide at all levels of care across the age span.
