Master of Arts (MA) in Transpersonal Psychology - Distance Learning
Transpersonal Psychology involves the study of experiences and states of consciousness that take us beyond the boundaries of our everyday personalities and connect us with spirituality, divinity or higher power(s) a in whatever way we understand those terms a and the Universe. There are many pathways of exploration within transpersonal psychology. However, the focus of studies will be on transpersonal states and phenomena as understood by psychologists and other scientists (e. g. biologists, psychiatrists, neurologists, anthropologists) working in the field. Elective studies may be taken from the broader base of parapsychology, psychic studies, shamanic studies, etc. plus humanistic psychology, subpersonalities, transpersonal hypnotherapy, and positive psychology.
For those who have not studied any academic psychology before, an introduction to or overview of the field of psychology may be included.
The MA will normally comprise 45 credits (approx. 15 x 3-credit units)
The normal entry requirement for the MA is an acceptable Bachelora s degree in any field plus demonstrable interest and/ or experience in transpersonal psychology. However, exceptional applicants without a degree may enter the MA directly - they should have a previous professional qualification such as teaching certificate, complementary medicine qualification, counselling or psychotherapy qualification, nursing or social work diploma, ordination as a minister of religion, etc. If necessary, an entrance examination may be set to determine whether the candidate can cope with the course.
A combined MA/ PsyD programme is also available which will comprise 60 credits (subject to approval).
Students may choose, guided by the academic advisor, from various units that examine the following topics:
a Transpersonal Psychology (overview)
a Humanistic Psychology
a Psychosynthesis
a Spiritual Intelligence
a Positive Psychology
a NLP and Spirituality (some understanding of or training in NLP preferred)
a Transpersonal Hypnosis (some understand of or training in hypnosis preferred)
a Thanatology (death and dying, concentrating on works of Kubler-Ross)
a Parapsychology (especially channelling, mediumship, spirit communication, remote viewing, etc.)
a Models of survival after death
a Spirit possession and attachment
a Reincarnation and regression (from a modern empirical approach including regression hypnotherapy and childrensa recall of previous lives)
a Psychology of religion
a Shamanism and Psychology
a Jungian studies (especially archetypes, the religious function of the psyche and Jungian spirituality)
a Spiritual Emergency or Spiritual Crisis
a Near-Death and Out-of-Body Experiences
a Meditation
a The Biology of Belief
a Fields of Consciousness
a Consciousness and the New Physics
a Psychosis and Spirituality
a Modern Buddhist psychology and psychotherapy
a Spiritual Coaching
a Integration of Traditional Healing Practices into Counselling and Psychotherapy
