A day of Brainstorming techniques
We will draw on a vast array of disciplines from mathematics to theatre skills as we introduce different techniques for releasing your creative energy.
Some processes will be tried and tested others will be experimental.
The day will end with delegates having experienced a variety of approaches to brainstorming and finally attempting to create their own, unique brainstorming tool.
Introduction - How we work at Impact Factory
Personal Development Use what already works The smallest change for the biggest impact Move things forward Knowing you have something else to try
Delegates introduce themselves Expectations and what you want out of the day.
A little bit of information about yourself and any current challenges you are facing that requires you to generate new or better ideas and solve problems.
What works and what gets in the way of coming up with ideas?
Ice Breaker
Attribute Chairs game: a fast-paced warm up.
The Day Begins
In pairs the group discuss their favourite, short brainstorming technique and demonstrate it to the rest of the room.
We will then begin working with a selection of brainstorming techniques designed to stretch, challenge, amuse and extend your ideas-generating toolkit.
Some of the techniques we may include are:
The Web of Words
An intriguing exercise that takes you on a journey using words to a surprising result.
Level Up Level Down
Looking at changing the hierarchy between persons, place and things in order to create new perspectives.
Frankenstein s Monster
Creating animate and inanimate hybrids. Breaking up the obvious
Crocodile
Blending and swapping the qualities of unrelated items to trigger new possibilities.
The Paradox Principle
A simple exercise to create tension between opposites.
Shapes and Categories
A stretching exercise to get you out of the too smart too soon pattern of leaping to the first solution before other possibilities are explored.
Cut Out the Customers
A great tool for getting up close and personal with your customers and explore their wants and needs.
Guided Visualisation
Three part brainstorm beginning with:
What we intellectually know about an issue How a child might see it How we might imagine it
Imagine If I was
A fun, role play process to get an insiders perspective on possible solutions.
Attribute Splitting
This process enables participants to break an issue or product idea into separate parts and reassemble them to create a new perspective or market position
DIY
Delegates are split into pairs and tasked with designing and demonstrating a new brainstorming tool.
Practise Practise Practise
The final quick-fire exercise of the day is to take a live issue from each delegate and using one of the brainstorming tools, demonstrate how to begin the problem-solving process. Each issue is limited to two minutes to show just how much can be accomplished in a very small period of time
Summary and Close
Delegates are given the opportunity to share what they discovered about the tools used and which they found useful.
They then identify how, where and when they might begin to apply the techniques back in the workplace.
Brainstorming Documents:
Web card & memory stick
