- S asked: i am writing a program to read a file and write a variable length file. The output rec which i am using is DCL OUTPUT SIZE FIXED BINARY (, ), DATA CHAR (); Now the out put i am getting is having spaces if data is less than the record length, but this is not the concept of variable file. It should not write anything not even spaces. So is there any way so that i can define the above group variable as variable length variable?
