Pre-session Assignment
Participants:
Identify and describe a key business challenge they want to advance
Interview key stakeholders of the business challenge
Request feedback from followers in a recent project, on the impact the leader has had on them
Examine and prioritize their most important values and request feedback from a close friend, family member or colleague about which values seem to matter most to the participant
The Working Session
During the 2 days, participants advance their business challenge by applying the concepts of the program to more effectively engage their followers. Participants focus on developing their leadership challenge through the lens of the needs of the followers.
The four key needs of followers are:
COMMUNITY
Followers have a deeply-rooted desire to belong, to feel part of something bigger, to relate to others and not just the leader. Leaders can meet this need by helping people connect to others as well as to the overarching purpose of the organization.
AUTHENTICITY
Followers want leaders to show us who you are to reveal their real human differences; to be a person, not a position. Leaders can meet this need by sharing insights about themselves as well as their personal successes and failures.
SIGNIFICANCE
Followers need to feel like we matter - that their efforts are worthwhile and meaningful. They need recognition for our particular contribution . Personalized feedback is essential to skillful recognition.
