BenefitsPublic and private educational facilities that receive federal assistance must comply with the
Rehabilitation Act
Amendments of 1973, concerning the rights of disabled employees and students. An educational facility's failure to comply with this law and its related regulations can result in a school being assessed with significant liability, including potential loss of federal funds. Unfortunately,
Section 504's obligations are detailed in the regulations of several federal departments and agencies that distribute federal funds. This teleconference will pull together the relevant regulatory obligations for both public and private schools, including post-secondary schools, regarding disabled employees and students, providing educators with cogent and succinct guidance on how to best comply with these obligations and avoid liability under this statute. It will also discuss the effect of last year's amendments to the Rehabilitation Act and the
Americans with
Disabilities Act.
