Course introduction
Carl Rogers is an important figure in the development of the "new" psychology focusing on the self-resourceful individual, and has had tremendous influence on the development of counselling, psychotherapy and personal communication skills as well as on educational philosophy. Many new styles of "humanistic" counselling and therapy owe their debt to Rogers, who made popular the concepts of "nondirective, client-centered or person-centered helping skills. Nevertheless, he is not mentioned in most hypnotherapy and NLP courses as well as many counselling and psychotherapy courses which may include outlines of such figures as Freud, Jung and Adler but not Rogers. If you have not been acquainted with Rogers' ideas before now, now is the time to fill that gap in your professional and intellectual education. If you just have a general interest in psychology, ideas and people, this course will give you much to ponder.
